Parish Councillors

The number of Councillors that a Parish has depends on the number of people on the Electoral Register. Binham Parish Council has seven Councillors and includes Cockthorpe. Elections take place every four years on the first Thursday in May, and may also be held if a vacancy occurs mid-term.  Following the May 2023 Election, Binham Parish Council as a vacancy for a parish councillor and if you are interested in being involved with your village, please contact the Clerk or any of the Parish Councillors listed below.

The Parish Council has a range of legal duties and powers related to local matters, such as looking after open spaces (The Greens), allotments, the Parish Council Cemetery and bus shelter.  Binham Parish Council also undertake other important commitments including:

  • responding to North Norfolk District Council on all planning applications relating to the parish
  • working with Norfolk County Council on highway matters, including ensuring that road furniture and status are maintained for safe driving
  • working with Norfolk Constabulary to monitor volume and speed of traffic and speed awareness through the villages, in particular using their own SAMS (speed awareness management system)
  • taking responsibility for, and maintaining areas of the villages, including grass cutting and repairs

Register of Interests

All members of the Parish Council are required by law to register their financial and other interests  These include:

  • details of any employment or business carried out by them;
  • the name of their employer;
  • details of any directorships;
  • contracts between themselves/their firm and the Council;
  • interests in land in the area.

The Register is maintained by the District Council Monitoring Officer and is available for inspection by the public on its website
